62 kills in one map: AwaykeN breaks the CS2 LAN record and still loses in sextuple overtime

Some individual performances stay in the stat sheet and others turn straight into folklore. AwaykeN's on 29 September belongs to the second group: INFURITY's Bulgarian put up 62 kills in a single map and walked off the server having lost it.

What actually happened

The setting was the group stage of Urban Riga Open Season 7, in Riga, with INFURITY facing Inner Circle Academy. The map was Dust2. The result was a 29-31 that took six consecutive overtimes to settle.

AwaykeN's numbers across that endless map: 62 kills, a 1.59 rating and 105.0 average damage per round. Which is to say it wasn't passive accumulation across extra rounds, but output held above a hundred ADR for the whole marathon.

The record that stood before

The previous LAN mark was 60 kills, shared by Alexander "Altekz" Givskov and Nils "k1to" Gruhne, both from an AM versus Nexus match at Digital Crusade DraculaN Season 2 roughly a year ago.

Widen the lens to every CS2 match, online included, and AwaykeN's 62 is the third-highest total in the game's history. Only Adrian "xelex" Vincze's 67 and Dmitry "sstiNiX" Khlebnikov's 63 sit ahead of it.

The small print on kill records

It's worth understanding why these numbers almost always come from matches with heavy overtime. A normal map caps out at 30 rounds; one that reaches a sixth overtime runs to sixty. So the record demands two things at once: an enormous individual level, and a match that refuses to end.

That also explains how cruel the ending is. AwaykeN needed the map to stretch to absurdity to get into the record books, and that same stretching is what eventually handed the opposition the win by two rounds. A record and a defeat in the same match.
