Vitality end the drought in Barcelona: StarSeries Fall champions after six maps in one afternoon
Vitality are winning again. The French side beat Aurora 3-1 in the StarSeries Fall grand final in Barcelona, ending a 140-day drought: they hadn't lifted a trophy since BLAST Rivals on May 3.
The win also tastes of revenge. Just a day earlier, Aurora had beaten them in the upper bracket final, sending them to the lower side with elimination back on the table.
Six maps in one afternoon
What makes this title special is how it was won. Vitality had to play the lower bracket final against FURIA and the grand final against Aurora on the same day. Six maps in a single afternoon, and they were still clearly the better side in the last one.
Their full tournament run tells the story: they beat magic once, FURIA twice, and Aurora when it mattered most. Their only defeat came against the very opponent they went on to beat in the final.
The final, map by map
Anubis was Aurora's pick and one of their strongest maps. It didn't matter. Vitality built a flawless defense, with mezii posting 17 kills as the site anchor, and took the map 13-4.
Aurora hit back on Inferno, where they went 12-6 up. Vitality then strung together five straight rounds and a flameZ 1v2 brought overtime within reach, but a Wicadia triple kill closed it 13-11 and levelled the series.
That was the end of Aurora's resistance. On Mirage, Aurora's second pick, they led 4-3 and then lost ten rounds in a row to fall 13-4. Cache, the decider, opened with Aurora winning the pistol and the following round, but Vitality took control once the full buys came in and closed it 13-7.
An answer to the noise
The title arrives after a summer in which Vitality's era was declared over. They strung together five trophies early in the year, then lost their way, dealt with mezii's paternity leave, and at the Esports World Cup received that B8 message declaring their era officially finished.
In the middle of all that, the organization extended ZywOo and apEX through 2028. Barcelona is the first proof that betting on continuity made sense: this makes six trophies for Vitality in 2026.
For Aurora, the defeat doesn't erase the progress. It's the first grand final of their international project, after a summer of stumbles, and they got there by beating NAVI and Vitality themselves.
What comes next
The next major stop is PGL Masters Bucharest, from October 24 to 31, where Vitality will play without apEX, on paternity leave, with jL covering his spot. After that comes the Singapore Major, where this team will want to prove Barcelona wasn't a one-off.
