FaZe finish last at IEM Beijing, knocked out by former captain karrigan's Falcons

FaZe have finished IEM Beijing in last place. The team lost both their Group A matches and went out against Falcons, in a tie with a very particular protagonist: their former captain, Finn "karrigan" Andersen, now leading the Saudi side.

Two 2-1 defeats

The opener against FURIA was bittersweet. FaZe pulled off a notable comeback on Ancient, trailing 2-10 at the break before winning 13-11, but then lost Dust2 (5-13) and Cache (4-13).

Falcons awaited in the lower bracket. karrigan's side crushed FaZe 13-3 on Ancient, FaZe levelled on Anubis (13-10) and Falcons closed it out on Mirage, 13-7.

karrigan against his old team

It was the first time karrigan had faced David "frozen" Čerňanský since leaving FaZe. After the match, the Dane played it down, saying facing former teammates is familiar territory for him.

He did admit his own team isn't firing on all cylinders: "We can't win our own map pick lately," he said, referring to the Anubis Falcons picked and lost. Still, he focused on the positives: "As long as we grind and we win the games, it doesn't matter how."

Falcons went on to knock out HEROIC as well. On Wednesday they play NAVI for Group A's last playoff place.

FaZe in a slump before the Major

For FaZe, the result confirms a difficult moment. The team sits 20th in the world ranking and will start the Singapore Major in Stage 1, which begins at the end of November. Along with G2, also knocked out in the Beijing group stage, they are one of the big names heading into the year's most important event with more doubts than certainties.
